Gray will know it was a dismal performance and that he's provided a boost to the SNP.Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02027368242570244912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-70915317451685888622011-03-30T14:03:34.566+01:002011-03-30T14:03:34.566+01:00I should add in response to Caron's post that ...I should add in response to Caron's post that it doesn't really matter what I think about Tavish Scott's performance, it's what the voters think that matters.Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02027368242570244912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-39511459776628049102011-03-30T13:58:28.814+01:002011-03-30T13:58:28.814+01:00Spot on Andrew. I've looked at the Daily Record link and it's rubbish, so biased it's unbelieveable but most of the comments say the same thing. I don't go for having a pop at the press normally but on this occasion you're dead right. Anyway the debate was poor and only Salmond was any good, he'll be rubbing his hands with glee and thanking his lucky starts the opposition is so lacklustre.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-46660445838980582422011-03-30T13:22:24.792+01:002011-03-30T13:22:24.792+01:00I stand corrected Allan.I stand corrected Allan.Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02027368242570244912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-4501039433684960472011-03-30T13:21:44.370+01:002011-03-30T13:21:44.370+01:00Hi Caron!

But if he wants to make a real impact in the way Clegg did last year he's got to work on his presentation. I think he also has to be more positive and decide how he's going to counter criticisms of the Westminster coalition. I want our leader not to merely put in a decent performance in a pretty dreary debate, but to inspire Scots to go out and vote and to get people to take notice of what he has to say.

Gray was truly awful. Maybe it's more than just his advisors taking the wrong tactics, but surely he can do better than he did last night? Maybe he was trying to wind up Salmond but if that's the case it was a truly naive tactic. As you say, the idea of Iain Gray being FM is truly depressing.

Goldie performed reasonably well. She got an easier ride than Tavish did, though. but she looks like a leader, whereas Gray looks completely lost.

All this made me pine for the days of Jim Wallace and Donald Dewar. Imagine a TV debate with those two and Alex Salmond!Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02027368242570244912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-63542536468052562642011-03-30T13:12:25.603+01:002011-03-30T13:12:25.603+01:00Brown often used a variant of the personality quot...Brown often used a variant of the personality quote - not that it did him much good.Allan Heronnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-91188015333561720852011-03-30T13:05:19.549+01:002011-03-30T13:05:19.549+01:00I'm going to write it up myself later, but I t...I'm going to write it up myself later, but I thought Tavish did better than you did - and I felt he came under greater scrutiny than anyone else.

I felt that Goldie just came across as Salmond's wee helper.

Salmond was pretty good. I don't actually dislike him, although he annoys the hell out of me most of the time.

And Gray was just horrendous. You can't just blame the advisers for it. Kenny Farquharson thought he was trying to wind Salmond up in the hope that he'd start giving it back to him but Eck was wise to that one. After last night the thought of Iain Gray as FM depresses me even more than it did already.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04988201531739344840noreply@blogger.com
