I agree that so far Clegg hasn't made the most of it. I can't possibly pre-empt what he will do; I simply express my view in regards what I feel he SHOULD do.

In defending Workfare he was, for me, defending the indefensible. it is riddled with impracticalities. There are ways of incentivising work and increasing opportunities, but removing benefit from people and developing rigid and discriminatory approaches is counter-productive.

I should add I'm far from the only Liberal Democrat with such views!
Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02027368242570244912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952108899218764633.post-71585163560667226012013-10-03T22:57:55.289+01:002013-10-03T22:57:55.289+01:00At last.a lib dem with some sense. If there were mo...At last.a lib dem with some sense. If there were more like you then perhaps you wouldn't risk being annihilated at the next election. But I agree with the comment above.Clegg isn't going to speak out and you'll be disappointed if you think he will, it's just people like yourself with some experience of life who put their heads above the parapet. I don't expect the Orange Bookers...Hi Giselle,

I don't expect the Orange Bookers to agree with me on a great deal.

However, they should stand up to the Tories when the proposed policy ideas (and let's be honest, this looks like it will be official policy) are frankly ludicrous and harmful.

On what level is discriminating against under 25s a good idea? What will this (and the Workfare scheme) do to Britain's recovering but fragile economy? Cameron is turning into a "true blue" - perhaps he always was - and a response is needed.

And by response I don't mean the lame and undecisive stuff from Clegg today, which was an embarrassment. The kind of language he used in his attack on the Daily Mail should become a feature of his approach to Tory stupidity.

Of course coalition means collective responsibility, but I don't see how that applies to maverick and misguided conference speeches that don't reflect current government policy.

We need to hear Clegg and Steve Webb speaking up more on these issues. Clegg said today that he is entirely behind the statements made by the OTHER Tories.giselle97noreply@blogger.com
